Dr. Leigh Ryan

General Dentist

Dr. Leigh Ryan strives to treat every patient as if they were family. She approaches patient care with a light-hearted, warm, and gentle demeanor. Patient safety, health, and comfort are always at the forefront of her practice. Dr. Ryan is a general dentist with a unique focus in care of the special needs and geriatric patient population.

She was born and raised in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. She received her B.A. in biology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. After graduating college, Dr. Ryan moved to Baltimore, MD and obtained her DDS degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She then completed a general practice residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Having a passion for working with the geriatric population and those residing in nursing homes, Dr. Ryan completed a fellowship in special needs and geriatric dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Here she received the Kimberly S. Swanson Geriatric and Special Needs Graduate Program Award, which supports a graduate student who shows exceptional skills in the treatment of patients within the area of geriatric and special needs dentistry. She continues to serve this population, as a part-time Clinical Faculty member of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry’s Special Care & Geriatrics Clinic.

Throughout her education, Dr. Ryan has received many honors including being awarded member of Phi Beta Kappa, in recognition of high attainments in liberal scholarship, and member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, by demonstrating exemplary traits of character and qualities of future professional growth and attainments. She is a member of the American Dental Association and Special Care Dentistry Association.

In her free time Dr. Ryan enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, listening to live music, and spoiling her rescue dog Ophelia. She can often be found talking about her favorite Peloton instructors, Formula 1 drivers, and latest TV series. She lives in Ellicott City, MD with her husband Karthik.
